"Leadership should
be born out of the understanding of the
needs of those who
would be
affected by it."

-Marian Anderson

Our community change model helps move people to effective action, right where they are—in their own neighborhoods, drawing on their community’s existing talents and local resources.

Local Agenda Title

Local problems demand local solutions.

Local citizens know their own communities best. They care most deeply about their own future. But while community members have the passion and need to create a better future, they often lack the skills, resources, or vision of what's possible to confront and solve complex problems.

Local Agenda is a new program that combines education, expertise, and engagement with the community along with investment and funding pathways. It is a comprehensive approach beyond workshops, seed funding, or public pitching—it's all of that—and more.

A comprehensive program that helps people create positive and sustainable change—in their own communities. Participants learn research-based and practical skills in problem identification, problem-solving, leadership, and planning. They gain critical experiences they need to tackle complex challenges with lasting, innovative solutions. For youth and adult learners, this program relies on local partnerships to support training and implementation. Local Agenda is participatory, positive, inclusive, and powerful.

Local Agenda NW, our NW version of the Local Agenda program, is currently offered in Portland, Oregon for 2008. Hosted by Mercy Corps NW. Learn more about Local Agenda NW.
